Let's talk about baselines!

Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, celebrated 130 years of innovation, collaboration, and social responsibility. During its rich history since being founded on May 15, 1891, in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, the company has continuously reinvented itself to remain relevant to society.

This continuous reinvention is reflected in corporate brands by redefining the baseline, which can be seen as the guiding thread of their activities. Whereas previously the baseline was "Sense and simplicity." followed by "Innovation and You.", anno 2021 we speak of the hashtag #Makelifebetter
Today, Philips is a leading health technology company with a purpose to improve the lives of 2.5 billion people a year by 2030 through meaningful innovation.

We note the tendency for future-oriented baselines to use more associative or slightly more aspirational terms. The less the company name itself is used as a commercial brand, the more abstract it becomes. We observe that an attempt is being made to reflect the Vision rather than the Mission in the baseline. Here too, we see the 'societal' content increasing, in line with the attention paid to the ESG score.

We would like to pass on a book tip about Jan Zwartendijk. During the Second World War, this former Philip's director and honorary consul issued a large number of Curaçao visas for Polish Jews who had fled to Lithuania, thus saving the lives of thousands of them. (The just. How a Dutch consul saved thousands of Jews. - Jan Brokken)

On 18 September, an exhibition about Jan Zwartendijk opens in the Philips Museum in Eindhoven.
